What To Do When Your Social Media Reach is Low

When your social media reach is low, it can be discouraging. You put a lot of effort behind your social media strategy, and to see it not do as well as you'd hoped is a different kind of heartbreak.

As social media managers, we know that clients and employers can focus a focus on our overall performance into just a few stats. So, when numbers start to drop we can't help but take it a bit personal, right? If your accounts are experiencing a bit of a dip in metrics, here are several different strategies you can try to turn things around.

What to Do When Your Reach is Low on Instagram

Wait

First, don't panic! Every single account experiences ebbs and flows. We need to see the low points to appreciate the high points - and that goes for reach, too. Before you get into solutions mode, give it some time to naturally turn around because one week is just a small insight into the greater picture of your social media account as a whole. Remember that especially with a new account, audience shift, or major strategy update it takes more than a week or two for these shifts to kick in. With new clients, we like to give the strategy at least two months before we rule it out as not working. Socials are a long-game!

Check Your Account Status

Did you run into any issues with your account status? This is always a good first step. Since Meta uses AI to filter out content, mistakes can happen! Double check and make sure there's nothing strange going on with your account that could effect your reach. Here's how.

Consider the Timing

Summer and the time surrounding holidays are known for lower reach. Think about it - everyone is off their phones and enjoying life offline for a bit. During this time, it's important to make shifts to your strategy to ensure you are thinking about how your audience is using social during this time. For example, if it's getting close Christmas time, drop the promotional content and start posting gifts, recipes, and relatable content for this time of year.

Audit Your Content

Are you providing value to your audience? Are you using a mix of formats like videos, infographics, and stories to keep things interesting? Are you posting when your audience is online? Consider all the factors going into your content to see if you can get creative and pivot. Do a full audit of everything happening with your content to see if you're hitting all the checkboxes or if it's time to get even more creative with content. Evaluate Your Outbound Engagement Strategy

Outbound engagement is essential to increase your reach and find more of your people online. Ensure that you are connecting with the right people, interacting with content daily, and taking time to attract new community members. We love to use an engagement checklist to ensure we prioritize spending time finding our new community to build with, while ensuring to also focus on inbound and nurturing the current community, too! Consider a Collab

Collaborating with influencers or other brands can also help expand your reach. By leveraging their audience, you can introduce your content to a broader group of potential followers, and this could be exactly the thing to get your account out of its rut. Remember that collaborations should be mutually beneficial and fun for both parties!

A drop in reach is normal, but how you handle it will make all the difference in the long-term health of your account! Remember, don't panic. Low analytics are a chance to get more in touch with your audience and shift your marketing direction.
