Instagram Story Ideas for Clothing Boutiques

Instagram stories are a great spot to connect with your social media audience!

Instagram stories are interactive, fun, and a chance to get your potential customers to get to know you and the brand, in what feels like a 1:1 format. While we of course love an in-feed post or Reel, stories feel a little less formal where you can focus on the conversational relationship building you need to move someone from viewer-status to DM bff to paying customer. Since stories are only live for 24-hours, it also is great for quick updates, in-the-moment shots, and exclusivity for those that see it all!

If you're not leveraging stories, this could be the divide between you and your audience that you need to fill in! If you're constantly out of ideas when it comes to creating stories, use this list as a guide to start connecting with your audience through Instagram stories!

Clothing Boutique Instagram Story Ideas

  • OOTD: Showcase your outfit of the day. What are you wearing, why did you choose it today, and where can they find your fit in your store!

  • Style Tips & Tutorials: Share styling tips and tutorials featuring your clothing items. Show different ways to wear a particular piece, how to mix and match outfits, or how to accessorize for different occasions. This not only showcases your products but also provides value to your audience.

  • Customer Features: Encourage UGC! Start a campaign where customers can tag you in their stories, feed, etc., that you can reshare!

  • Share What's New: Do you have a new shipment or product coming into your store? Use Stories to announce new arrivals and give your audience a sneak peek of what's upcoming. Tease them with behind-the-scenes footage or close-up shots of details and create buzz about new items!

  • Polls and Q&A Sessions: We aren't saying you have to go full-on this or that style, but finding fun ways to poll your audience is great for connection points and market research for you, too! Ask them about their style preferences, favorite clothing items, their take on trends or new items.

  • Promote any Sales or Offers: Use Stories to announce flash sales, exclusive offers, or limited-time promotions. Create a sense of urgency by including a countdown sticker or limited stock alerts. Use a link for them to be able shop right away (if you're an online boutique!)

  • Outfit Inspo: Curate mood boards or outfits for specific events or days, that your audience can get inspired by. (i.e. style this raincoat with me for the upcoming rainy spring days!)

  • Get your team involved: Share what they are wearing, what their favorite item is in the shop, their opinions on a fashion trend! Your audience will want to see all the faces behind your brand, too!

  • Create a Lookbook: This would make such a great highlight feature, too! Show off your best items and create a seasonal lookbook!

  • Share Styling Do's & Don't's: What works well together? What textures are your favorite to pair? Share all your expert fashion tips for your audience!

Remember to think about your audience. What are they going through? Are they moms? Are they retired? Are they college-age? Share tips, relatable memes, etc., that they can connect with beyond clothes, too!
