How to Plan and Schedule Social Media Posts

One of the most challenging parts of managing a social media account is organizing all the content pieces that come together within your strategy, especially with more than one platform!

Planning

Everyone's planning process will look different! Start with figuring out the basics, and then you can nail your process down from there. Note: this isn't your strategy, but rather in element of bringing your strategy to life! Pull these from your strategy:

  1. How many days/weeks/months do you want to plan your content out in advance?

  2. How many content pieces need to be created?

  3. What content types are you creating?

After you know how many content pieces you're creating, and what type of content you need, then you can step into brainstorming.

Brainstorming

The best brainstorming comes from the most unlikely places. Get out of the house, talk it out with a friend or your work team, check in your notes app, or even watch or try something new to get those gears turning. Write down any and all ideas that can be helpful for you in the creation process, and remember that this shouldn't be about you, this is all about what your ideal audience is going to love.

Creating

There are many ways to create content, and it's all about building this process around you and how your brain works. We love to batch content in advance, like filming or designing content in bulk, or writing captions in one sitting. We use tools like Canva, Veed, and Capcut to create graphics and video editing.

Create a Calendar

Use a spreadsheet, Asana, Notion, or social media tools to map out your posts. If you need to get the content approved, this can be a great step to do so. You can also skip this step and plan in your scheduling tool directly.

Scheduling

After a post is fully approved and ready to be scheduled, we drop all the needed information into our scheduling tool. We use Later with all accounts we manage due to its user-friendliness, but there are plenty of options out there. Here are a few other options:

  1. Meta Business Suite

  2. Buffer

  3. Hootsuite

  4. Planoly

  5. SocialBee

  6. Sendible

  7. Sprout Social

  8. Publer

And from here, don't forget to engage with your audience after your content is posted — reply to all comments and answer those DMs!
