How To Ask for Testimonials as an Social Media Freelancer
Testimonials literally speak for themselves! They are such a good reassurance for potential clients to know that current/past clients actually have worked with you and have received those amazing results. Here’s how to go about asking:
Make It Personal
Even if you're using a template or automatic email, be sure to add in some personality and personal annotates. No one likes the boring, "Tell us how we did!" email. Use their name and context to make it feel more personalized and less cookie-cutter.
Consider the Timeframe
Obviously, we don't want to have a client for a day and immediately ask what they think about everything. Timeframe definitely matters when it comes to asking for testimonials. Consider asking, at the end of the year, the end of a trial, or after a big win or result!
Provide Options
Not every client is outgoing or tech savvy, so consider giving them multiple options for leaving reviews, so they can choose what works best for them! Here are some examples:
Video Testimonial
Public Review Sites
Facebook
Google
Yelp
TIP: provide direct links to the review section of your pages for these - that way it saves them from searching!
Feedback Forms - there are a million forms and survey tools online to use. When you use these options, you can use prompts to help them better their review and you can use pieces on your website or other marketing materials to pull the perfect quote.
Google Docs
Survey Monkey
Jot
Consider Offering Something In Return
If you aren't getting a lot of movement when it comes to testimonials, consider adding an incentive for a review - 15% off your next service, a $10 Starbucks gift card, or enter to win this giveaway! It doesn't have to be a huge incentive, but something to get them to be persuaded to review. Before doing this, please do your research and be aware of all rules and regulations that sites have for offering reviewing incentives!
Send a Follow-Up
After they leave a review, be sure to send a follow-up email or handwritten letter to say thank you. This lets them know that you closely monitor the conversation around your brand and services, and reassures them that you appreciate the review.
