How Can Social Media Managers use AI? Answered by Social Media Managers

AI is everywhere! With tools launching all over the place, we wanted to open up the conversation to how we can leverage these tools as Social Media Managers and social media professionals in general.

In this blog, we asked our amazing community of SMMs for their thoughts on the subject.

How can social media managers use AI tools?

“Although AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney are changing the content creation game, I'm currently obsessed with how we can leverage AI in spreadsheets and for data analysis. In social media marketing it’s important to measure performance and understand your analytics and there’s some really cool AI applications that can help with this, for example, you can auto-magically clean your data (remove duplicates, fill gaps, cross check accuracy etc) and you can even generate interactive dashboards that make it easier to explore your data, spot trends, and share insights with clients. One of the coolest parts though is AI's ability to understand and respond to natural language requests, because this really makes data analysis more accessible no matter what your level of technical expertise. Imagine asking your AI spreadsheet tool specific questions like “what patterns do you see in the posts that got the best engagement for this client?” or “which ad sets performed the best if we measure by X instead of Y?” and actually getting insightful answers back. I’m really excited to see where this takes the industry because from where I sit, it looks like data-driven decision making has just been democratized in a really big way!”

Social Media Managers can definitely use AI tools to help them with their job. They can be used as a timesaving tool, for instance with captions (something that can take up a bit of time), there are several copywriting AI tools out there. AI tools can be a great benefit to social media managers, to me though having a personal touch from a real person is unbeatable.”

AI tools I will say is one of the biggest things that happened to Social media, as it has helped a lot of managers and creators to save time and also have the opportunity to focus on other parts of their business one way I would advise that social media managers use these different AI tools is to ensure they don't lose their personality and their brand identity or voice as every business is unique. We can't fully trust the power of AI and lose our identity along the way. we should be sure to always edit the content or ideas we've forgotten from these tools to fit into who we are and what we stand for.”

“Social Media Managers can use AI for many things. They can get ideas for posts, quotes, etc. to go with their client’s niche. They can also incorporate AI for fact-checking and brainstorming.”

“AI can be a tool and resource for social media managers at all levels of their career to develop their skill and create engaging content that converts; it is something for us to embrace, as it is certainly not going somewhere anytime soon. As a learning tool, AI provides new social media managers with a way "to get their foot in the door"; by asking questions, they can begin developing a base understanding of key social media terms, platform purposes, content types, and more. Social media managers (at any point in their career) can also avail of AI when feeling stuck for content inspiration, best wording, grammar, etc. By learning to navigate AI efficiently, and developing a solid understanding of what makes a quality AI prompt; social media managers can grow their skills and reach the goals they set out for their content.”

“Social Media Managers can effectively optimize AI tools by using it as a complimentary tool for research, content ideation and content creation.”

“When you are not 100% sure about the services your client offers this gives you a way to learn.”

“AI tools can be a social media managers best friend. For when we have creative block they are so valuable giving us ideas and starting points for content. They should be used with caution though and always check the TOV and correct language is used.”

“Social media managers don't have to be scared of AI tools. They are not here to replace us; they're here to aid us! In my work in podcasting, I use AI tools specifically for transcribing and writing show notes. Not only do the show notes sound more engaging, but they're more packed with highlights as well. My productivity has significantly increased!”

Social media managers can use AI tools in different ways such as: content generation, chatbots and customer services, photo/image generation, etc.”

“AI tools are now essential for social media managers, lightening our workload and making tasks more efficient. They revolutionize content creation by helping us craft captivating captions, generate visually appealing graphics, and curate compelling content effortlessly. With automated messaging and chatbots, we enhance customer support and gain deeper insights into public sentiment. With their help, we can analyze performance metrics and make data-driven decisions for continuous growth. By aligning AI tools with our brand, we maximize their potential and create remarkable experiences for our audience. We should leverage them strategically to excel in the dynamic world of social media.”

“Social media managers can use AI tools for content creation ideas, whether it’s for captivating taglines to ideas to talk about in stories, the opportunities are endless. I personally love that you can take a post that you have written previously and have AI recreate it to sound even better based on your needs. For example, if you want a particular post to sound friendlier or speak to a particular pain point of your ideal client, you can have it do that!”

Social media managers can use AI tools to improve their efficiency in terms of research. It is important that they know their prerequisite to creating quality work before they even use any AI tool. The knowledge that they have will have them prompt, AI tools in the best way possible to get ultra-specific results.

For example, asking ChatGPT to write a caption about a bowl of Ramen will give you just a generic caption. Instead, asking it to write a caption for a Montreal restaurant trying to bring in foodies passionate about Umami flavour and looking to discover new Japanese dishes will give you a super targeted caption. It will help you build your relationship with your target audience.

TL;DR: Know your target audience well, and write a good prompt to get amazing results!”

“Social Media Managers can use AI tools to create and curate attractive, and interesting contents that grab the audience's attention.”

“Social media managers can use AI tools to enhance their work by automating tasks, improving efficiency, and gaining insights from data analysis. AI-powered tools help with social listening, content creation, customization, and ad targeting. Additionally, AI can assist in identifying potential customers and delivering highly relevant ads to them on their preferred platforms[^3^].”

Our team of engagement strategists has been starting to leverage AI in our DM conversations. My favorite story is for our client who hosts a podcast covering the Philadelphia Eagles. One of my team members needed a spicy response for a Patriots fan who was living in Philly - she plugged it into ChatGPT and it gave her a ZINGER. With both our team and our clients being global, AI allows us to accurately connect with people without having to do a ton of research about a specific place or topic!”

”Social media managers can use tools like AI to help them come up with content ideas, flush out relatable quotes without having to search through pages of Google, help them write powerful captions, and even generate relevant hashtags. You can also use AI tools to help you come up with a complete customer avatar for your client and messaging that speaks to them. I use IA to help my business be more efficient everyday!”

If you're running into writer's block, using AI to come up with ideas for new social media posts can help get the gears turning and churn up some new content ideas. I do this by using AI to assist me with creating popular topics within my particular industry, and once they provide me with a list of ideas, I usually take a topic or idea and ask AI to provide sub-topics. By narrowing down the topic, it helps me key in on what I could create a post about, taking some of the pressure off by not having to start completely from scratch during those rough days. Social media managers can also use AI tools to help with creating attention-grabbing hooks for social media captions when ready to post.”

“Different ways. It brings ease and opportunity for development in different areas”

“AI tools are a great resource for social media managers, by providing a "second brain" - anything from help writing captions, creating hashtags, and coming up with content ideas. AI can even analyze your tone of voice from a previous manuscript and write copy for blogs, emails, etc. in your brand voice! It's a great tool I use daily for work.”

Social media managers can utilize AI as a tool to generate engaging prompts for their clients social media captions! Also, they can leverage it to identify the most effective strategies for reaching a specific targeted audience and creating prompts that resonate with that audience.”

Social media managers should look at AI tools like they do other content creation tools. They aren't going to "replace" any jobs, but instead, they are going to help us increase our efficiency and output for our clients. Canva's AI capabilities for design can help you create content from a few keywords, ChatGPT can help you generate content ideas/prompts/questions to ask your clients to learn more about their industry, and Munch for creating short-form video content from long-form videos. There are so many AI tools out there, and we should choose ones that help us remove minuscule tasks and are worth the investment in our business.”
