7 Reasons Why Your Small Business Needs An Email Marketing Strategy

As of 2020, email marketing still remains one of the most important ways to actively reach your audience, even with the rise of social media. While some may not take full advantage of the opportunities that it provides, we have 7 major reasons as to why your small business needs to implement an email marketing strategy.

With some help from Hubspot on stats and some infographics from Campaign Monitor, we will show you why and how important it is to create an email marketing strategy and maintain it.

1. EMAIL IS NOT GOING AWAY

First and foremost, more than 50 percent of U.S. respondents check their personal email account more than 10 times a day, and it is by far their preferred way to receive updates from brands.

According to Campaign Monitor, when it comes to the frequency of checking their email, the majority of Millennials and Gen Z are claiming to check their email multiple times per day.

It is clear that even with newer generations, email is not fading into the past, but growing into the future. Meaning your email strategy is just as important as it was when email was 10 year ago.

2. INCREASES YOUR ROI

According to Hubspot, 59% of marketers say email is their biggest source of ROI and that email marketing is responsible for generating $38 for every $1 spent.  This means a 3,800% return on your investment, making it one of the most effective marketing options available.

3. BEST WAY TO REACH MILLENNIALS AND GEN Z

One of the best ways to connect with Millennials and Gen Z is through email!

73% percent of millennials prefer communications from businesses to come via email. When asking a pool of 907 participants from Gen Z what their preferred method of engagement with a brand is, the majority of them (1591) answered Social Media as their primary way with email being a close second (1515).

4. EMAIL ENGAGEMENT IS INCREASING

Not only is email not going away, it’s engagement is increasing over time. Hubspot reports that 78% of marketers have seen an increase in email engagement over the last 12 months. And Campaign Monitor says that email users are projected to grow 3% each year until 2021.

5. EASILY CREATE COST-EFFECTIVE & TIMELY CAMPAIGNS

There are multiple ways to create campaigns and advertise to your audience, but email proves to be one of the most cost-effective ways to connect to your target demographic without needing to pay per click. It also is a shorter process than traditional marketing campaign planning that allows for you to plan, produce, and send within a few days.

6. SELF-PROMOTION WITHOUT DISTURBING

One thing small businesses have to make sure of is to connect with their customers in the right way at the right time. This means not making their audience feel intruded upon but instead like they’re being offered something of interest to them. According to Campaign Monitor, many Gen Z youths have purchased 2-5 times within the past month as a direct result of an email they received from their brand of interest. Ensuring you are providing value without intrusion is easiest through email marketing!

7. MAINTAIN YOUR CONTACT LIST WITHOUT WORRY

One worry that many business owners have is knowing how dependent they are on social media to connect with their audience. If something were to happen to these social media platforms and you didn't have any other way to reach your audience that you had grown on there, it could be extremely hazardous to your business. Thankfully, with email, you are able to save those contacts you’ve carefully acquired and not worry about potentially losing the ability to reach your audience.
