Social Media Tactics That No Longer Work

It’s no secret that getting organic reach on Instagram can be a big-time struggle. The platform has grown and expanded dramatically, which means that your social media strategy has to do the same! It’s time to let go of what used to work and figure out what works now.

Here's a list of outdated social media tactics that you should avoid:

POST AND GHOST

Do not do this! There is no way that you can build engagement by posting and ghosting. Every time you post on Instagram, you need to set aside time to actively engage with your audience. When you engage with your followers, it puts your account on their minds. Then they’re more likely to check out your latest posts.

ONE-LINE CAPTIONS

The thing that's wrong with one line captions is that they don't take full advantage of your character count! You should want to provide as much value as possible to your followers in your captions! There is only so much you can say in one sentence. You don’t have to write a novel but write enough to connect with your audience and provide something of value.

PICTURE PERFECT REEL

It’s 2020, it’s time to get real on social media. Picture perfect reels don’t work anymore because they lack a sense of authenticity and relatability. Nobody is perfect, which makes it hard to relate to a perfect IG account. This is good news! This means that you can be freer with what you post. Don’t be afraid to show some of the struggles of your business or get a little personal! It all builds community and connection!

Overall, we're pretty excited about the changes in social media! It's focused on building real community and value. That may mean more work, but it also means more reward!
