Should You Build Relationships with Your Competitors?

If you've followed us for a while now, you've probably heard us preach, "Community over Competition!" We are all in on the community vibes over here at Social Savvy and here's why you should be, too!

The thing about competitors, while they are the most similar to you, chances are you have different enough offers or you'd likely not be in business! It's not a 'keep your enemies closer' type of situation, as it is about growth and connection! Who can you relate to more than someone who is facing the same ups and downs in business as you are?

We should build relationships with competitors because the relationship can (1) challenge you to improve, (2) serve as a major support system, (3) become a great referral system! Let's dive deeper on those -

Challenge Us

Challenging us and moving out us of our comfort zone is a recipe for growth! Always, always, always surround yourself with people who you want to learn from and who push you to do better, because that's where you'll really see huge strides in your business. Let the competitive spirit push you both to be the best business version of yourselves!

Build a Support System

Support as a business owner is invaluable! There are so many questions that pop up, unique situations where advice is needed, or just having someone to vent to that gets it is exactly what you need. Everyone has such separate experiences and having that to contrast yours can make a great business bestie!

Referrals

Since your offer likely differs from your competitor, if either one of you has a lead that doesn't quite fit the ideal customer, it might fit theirs instead! Establishing that relationship and having someone you trust to pass referrals off to will be crucial to ensure that our leads are being taken care of! Plus, on the other side of that when you receive a referral from them, who doesn't like a few free leads?!
