Mistakes to Avoid on TikTok

TikTok has been downloaded over 3 billion times! Within that 3 billion, companies have started to take advantage of the platform to create fun and connection-driving content for their audience.

Since we spend pretty much all our free time on TikTok these days...along with the fun & creative content, we've also noticed some cringe-worthy content mistakes. We created a list of common TikTok mistakes for you and your company to avoid to keep your TikTok professional and beneficial -

  1. Posting low-quality videos - no one wants a low-res video on their feed. Prioritize good sound and video quality when you are in the filming process. Make sure you have good lighting, are using a phone or camera with high quality, and have no distracting background scenes or noise. (Ring lights will save your life!)

  2. Posting landscape (horizontal) videos - TikTok fills up a user's entire phone screen, so make sure you take advantage of that space! Landscape videos can be difficult to see and can look unprofessional - always go with vertical / portrait videos.

  3. Not engaging with your audience - Just like any social media platform, engage, engage, and engage! Your audience is right at your fingertips when it comes to socials. Unlike a billboard on the side of a busy highway, you get to interact with viewers, start a conversation, and create a connection. CheckπŸ‘ your πŸ‘ comments πŸ‘ section πŸ‘

  4. Posting inconsistently - The TikTok algorithm majorly favors consistency and frequency. Be sure to set an achievable schedule and stick to it.

  5. Not using a mix of trending audios and original audios - Similar to Instagram, the TikTok algorithm loves you when you use a good mix of trending and original audios. Not to mention, it adds variety for your current audience and exposure to new audiences.

  6. Not using a hook - Why should people stop scrolling? Use a hook as you would in a caption right at the beginning. You truly only get a few seconds to capture a viewer's attention, so be sure to not leave this out!
