How to Overcome Content Burnout

When you've worked with a social media account for awhile, you might experience burnout or content creator's block (Yes, I might have just made that term up, but it's definitely a thing!) While content creation it might be one of the most fun and creative elements of our jobs, it's difficult to come up with new ideas every single day. No matter how creative and innovative you are, it's completely normal to experience some struggles with this over time!

Wondering what to do when your creative energy is running low and you need to get your content calendar off your to-do list? We recommend trying these tips!

Revisit your strategy and customer persona

Hopefully you were able to included this in your content strategy! This way, you can always use it as a reference point. Even if you feel like you're really connected with your audience, it's helpful to go back to your strategy, review your customer persona, and put yourself in their perspective again! If you didn't include this insight in your strategy or if you feel that your customer persona needs an update, this could be a great opportunity to do so and you will probably gain a lot of ideas from it!

Explore your Explore page

Social media has soooooo many creators and that's certainly not a bad thing! Dive into your explore page and get some ideas. With our love/hate relationship with the Instagram algorithm, this is the love part! It has a perfectly tailored section for you get the most relevant, relatable content.

Follow trends

Reacting to trends is a great way to move up in the world of social media AND it can also be a huge source of content inspo. Making sure you really understand the trend and then think about how you can add your own brand personality to it! This goes hand-and-hand with the explore page, you will probably find many trends showing up there.

Check the calendar

Holidays, current events, and national days can be a great thing to help get your creative content ideas flowing! Plus, it usually is what's trending, as well. Once you research a few calendars, you'll find out there is a national day for just about anything and it's a great thing to turn into a socials post.

Search Hashtags

Find the hashtags that relate to your business and search them! See what other people are talking about within that topic and hopefully an idea will strike from there. Just because other people are already talking about a topic does not mean that you can't. Don't be afraid to put a new spin on an old topic or take it from a new perspective.

Research Online

Google search some content idea for your profession. There are hundreds, probably thousands or lists people have created to help us out. However, our favorite website to use? Our own! We highly recommend going back to your own website to find content ideas. Consider your website a personal dictionary for your brand. You have all your brand personality, services, product details, company details, blogs, everything. All in one spot. Go into it with a fresh perspective and turn it into content!

Repurpose your content

Repurpose. Your. Content. All the time. This doesn't just apply to when you are drained in the content department, you should be repurposing your content regardless. It's 100% okay to recycle your content and it can be a huge timesaver (and brainpower-saver!).

Here are some ways to repurpose!

Be patient!

If you take anything from this article today, let it be this tip. Be patient with yourself! Every single job and industry has it's challenges, and this is one of ours. Take a break, focus on something else, disconnect, do whatever you have to do to not beat yourself up over the situation. It's just like anything in life, if you continue to force something it probably will end up the opposite way. Getting frustrated with yourself is a recipe for disaster.
