6 Things We've Learned in 6 Years Social Media Industry
Hey, Jess here! Six years ago, I decided to take the leap into becoming a freelance solopreneur… a.k.a. I could make my own rules of when I worked, but that also meant it would significantly affect my income.
I found my first paying client within a few days in a Facebook group, and the rest was history. I constantly focused on creating a service that helped my clients create a social media presence, focused on what was trending, analyzed the data to see where to improve, and always thought outside of the box when it came to social media.
We’re still evolving as a company to make that even better for our clients.
Growing up, I was always a little entrepreneur. Helping my mom and grandma with their Avon or craft fair businesses. Selling all of the wrapping paper or chocolate bars for school fundraisers. But starting a business of my own was SCARY. Especially a social media business. I thought, who would take me seriously?
Fast forward six years and I’ve learned so much about myself, life, and business, and I can only thank Social Savvy for that.
There have been so many lessons learned over these six years of working in this industry, and here are our top takeaways.
Collaborations are Key
Collaborations between brands have made huge strides in 2024. People want to see their favorite brands teaming up and creating an experience together! If collaborations aren't on your radar for your social media strategy they need to be. Team up with another business for a fun content shoot, do a giveaway together, or even create a combined product/service! Check out a few of our favorite collaborations for popular brands as inspiration:
Get To Know Your Audience
This has always been "in" for us, but what we want to put an emphasis on is getting to know them. We don't want to just hear that your audience is "Female entrepreneurs" we want to hear what they like to do, what common interests they have, what they like to read — you should know your audience like you know your best friend! Learning this has been HUGE in this industry as our viewers aren't living with
Engagement > Follower Count
The debate of what's the most important analytic on social media is always a topic of discussion. After six years in business, we can safely say that engagement rate is where we lean in! While looking at all analytics can give us a well-rounded insight into the page, engagement is important, as we know HOW they are interacting with the content we are creating. That will give us real insights into what they love (or hate) to see!
Social Media Is For Networking
Social media is for socializing? What?! When Instagram became the platform for businesses, we lost a lot of social aspects to the platform. Social media isn't just for advertising, we have to network and connect with other businesses, our target audience, and those in the community.
You Need Email Marketing
We love socials, of course! The name Social Savvy isn't just for show! But, one major thing we've learned in our marketing experience is that well-rounded marketing is the best approach. Email marketing has an ROI of $36 for every $1 spent, and if that statistic alone doesn't sell you on why you should invest in this, I don't know what will! (And, lucky for you, we offer this service, too!)
Thank you for being a part of this journey in any way shape or form. Whether you just follow along and cheer for us on social media. Are one of our amazing clients. Have referred us to someone you know. Or have impacted this business in any way, it NEVER goes unnoticed!
