Welcome to another episode of Hashtag Managed and another year. It’s finally 2023, and with a new year comes new trends in social media marketing. In today's episode, we’re going to dive into all of the trends that we foresee happening in this new year at Social Savvy and how we can tailor these trends to our social media management clients.
We’re going to look at five trends for the new year, and how you can adapt them to your social media marketing clients:
Trend #1 - Influencer Marketing
2023 has to be the year that we finally give influencers the major credit that they deserve! Influencers are gaining popularity left and right, and with the rise of content creators and micro-influencers over the past year it's expected that influencer marketing will play a big role in your strategy in one way or another. The influencer marketing industry is projected to reach $84 billion in 2028.
When adapting this strategy to your social media management clients, create an influencer marketing strategy that creates partnerships with micro or nano influencers. Micro-influencers have 10,000 to 100,000 followers and nano-influencers have 1,000 to 10,000 followers. Creating a lasting partnership with influencers is a great way to set expectations for the deliverables that they need to create, and the results they get. Select influencers based on their content creation skills (bonus points for video) and the platforms they are in.
With the proper partnerships and strategies, influencer marketing is a great move in 2023 for many industries looking to expand their organic reach on social media.
Trend #2 - Audience Experience
Customers are expecting more from brands. And since social media has become an amazing platform of communication between consumers and brands, we need to think about our audience experience! Your followers want to see customers and clients at the heart of social media, and with that, we need to ensure that we are utilizing things like multiple content types, customer service processes, FAQ sections, and non-spammy social media practices. If you want that sale, you need to be sure that you are focusing on the audience-nurturing stage in 2023.
When adapting this strategy to your social media management clients, put an emphasis on valuable social content and put customer service above everything else. We define valuable content as content that educates, helps, or inspires an audience. To put customer service in the forefront, we recommend creating an FAQ document for the community management portion of your services. This is a spot that houses canned responses to DMs and comments that your clients’ audience asks on social media about their business.
Trend #3 - Social Awareness & Political Activism
There's no doubt that social media platforms have become the spot for discussion when it comes to social and political topics. We don't see this trend going away anytime soon, especially with Gen Z. According to the Instagram trends report from Instagram themselves, Gen Z shows strong political activism and they are ready to support brands and influencers that do, too.
When adapting this strategy to your social media management clients, create a strategy for how your clients plan to take a stand, be transparent with their audiences about what that stand is and have a plan for anything that may come up. This means to plan for any and all responses that could come in about the activism.
Trend #4 - Collaborations
Community over competition is definitely IN right now! We are seeing more and more brands teaming up with brand collabs, giveaways, and content in general. Instagram's collaboration feature and TikTok's duet feature have made the process of connecting seamlessly in 2022, and in 2023, we only see it increasing from here!
When adapting this strategy to your social media management clients, plan collaborations with the influencers that you entered into a partnership with or businesses that are perfect partnerships. This increases brand awareness for your clients.
Trend #5 - Authenticity
The days of curating the perfect social media image is over, and we couldn't be more excited about it. With apps like BeReal, the concept of being more genuine, more original, and more authentic have become front and center and we don't see it disappearing anytime soon. Even other platforms such as Instagram and TikTok have rounded a corner with more real-life content, and we see this to continue to unfold in updates over the year.
When adapting this strategy to your social media management clients, show the “real” behind the brand: the real customer/client stories, the business owner’s story, and what makes the brand unique.
To wrap up the five major trends of 2023 we’ve got real people, real content, real mistakes, real struggles, and real results for our social media management clients.
