Social Media Expectations Vs Reality: A Guide to Overcoming Common Misconceptions

As with most things in life, sometimes our expectations and reality don't always match up! So, when it comes to social media marketing, we all know it's no different! There are so many misconceptions that come with marketing on socials, and we want to set the record straight.

1.) Paid Ads

Expectation: Paid ads will get you the results you need.

Reality: Paid ads will get the content out there, but the quality of your content, message, and a call to action will pull people in.

2.) Platform Presence

Expectation: If I’m on all platforms, it will help my business grow.

Reality: Some platforms aren’t right for some businesses. Find where your target audience is and be there!

3.) Content

Expectation: I can post the same content on all platforms to save time.

Reality: The same content does not work on all platforms and your socials will be a giant snoozefest. You can certainly repost things and repurpose content; however, do it in a way that you consider the platform's audience, algorithm, and format.

4.) Content Calendar

Expectation: Once I have my content calendar set, I really shouldn't change it.

Reality: You have to be adaptable with your content calendar. Trends pop up at any moment, current events arise, your strategy isn't going as well as you'd hoped, you might need to alter your plans. We always preach having content scheduled out in advance for your account; however, sometimes you need to do some readjusting to make sure your brand is as relevant and updated as possible.

If you stray away from these common misconceptions, your account should be on the right track in no time! Ready to learn more? Check out our Building a Social Savvy Brand course to get your social media going!
